Update: I have been on the phone with our DC provider and they have advised me that there is a major shortage of IPV4 address across the entire of Europe to the point where there are no ranges available at all. We will be working with the team at the data centre to secure additional IPV4 space, and we are currently investigating options of also launching IPV6 only services for those of you interested. We will keep you updated as we progress with this issue.

We are currently experiencing a shortage of IPV4 address on our French node. We are working with our data centre team to arrange more IPV4 addresses be allocated to the server, and we should have this issue resolved within 24 hours.

For me, the day started much earlier than the other guys waking up at 5am to be ready for my first train of the day. I arrived on time, got my first train with complimentary charging sockets (that's always a plus). An hour or so later, I exited the train and got a bit lost in Reading station. Not long after, my next train arrived and I got on my way to Swindon. Unfortunately, this one had no electric doors, nice seats or charging ports. Before a small Costa pit stop, we left Swindon in Ryan's car where I met up with Dan and James as well. Finally, we arrived at the NEC just in time for the event to start.

It all started on a frosty December morning here in the south west of the UK. The epic journey that spanned over a weekend, with loads of games, cosplayers and beers awaiting us in Birmingham. It’s none other than the grand Insomnia Gaming Festival – the 59th iteration.

To begin with, the grand quest of not getting lost whilst picking everyone up began. Thankfully, I didn’t have the job of taxi duty (this time) – that was left to Ryan. After everyone had been collected we all procured some drinks from the nearest Costa to satisfy us on our relatively short journey up to Birmingham (about an hour and 20 minutes).

To continue providing the best possible service we will be performing some major upgrades to our main company web server, this hosts our main website and our billing portal.

Due to the nature of the upgrades the web server will be offline and unreachable for the majority of the upgrade window and as such the main website and billing portable will be inaccessible. The upgrades will take place Sunday 2nd October 2016 from 1PM UK Time through to 3PM UK Time, with a total of 2 hours planned downtime.

This upgrade will not affect client services in any way, all VPS's and dedicated hardware will remain online throughout the maintenance window.

Thank you for your understanding.

We are currently planning on planning to upgrade our French and Canadian networks. We have attempted this before with no success, however we have been able to do a lot more research and finalise the new deployment plan.

Our french network will be the first area to undergo these upgrades, we will be moving all of our Tomato clients first onto the new node. We will then move our Turnip clients onto the new node at a later date.

Due to the deployment changes a handful of IPV4 addresses will be unable to be migrated to the new server. We will be e-mailing all our clients on the Tomato server to advise them as to if they will be affected and if so what their new IPV4 address will be.

We will be working to minimise downtime and will be migrating clients in small batches, so as to ensure the best stability in the migration with minimal potential failures.

The migrations will start Thursday 8th September 2016 at 13:00 BST and we hope to have completed all of the Tomato migrations by 18:00 BST the same day.

The downtime should be minimal for all clients. All affected clients with IPV4 changes will be contacted within the next 72 hours.

Monday started far far earlier than I would usually have liked... I was up at 7:30AM so I had plenty of time to actually get out of bed, get myself ready for the day, and head down to breakfast. I again enjoyed a all you can eat breakfast, where I still had to fight a slightly queasy stomach, however I wasnt sure if this was just because I had eaten crap all weekend or because of the pub quiz the night before, however thinking about it, I expect it was down to eating nothing but crap all weekend...

Me and Dan then met up, checked out of the hotel and played Tetris with the boot of my car to try and fit everything into it. We got to the NEC at around 9:20 ish, dumped anything we didnt need to carry around with us but would need throughout the day in the press room, and Dan got his Camera and we headed into the expo haul. When we tried to enter at hall 6, they turned around and told us press couldn't get in early (Even though we had got in earlier 2 days before), and then we went to Hall 7 (The other Expo Hall entrance) and the gentleman let us straight in to the hall. We then setup some shots throughout the venue and got the initial shots we wanted.

At around 10:15-10:20 we then headed up to the expo stage where the crowds entered in from. We then setup the camera in the position we wanted and hit record as the crowds started coming in. The Hype trailer should be up at some point in the next few weeks when me and Dan have the chance to meet up again and start the editing process.

We then headed back to the press room and reviewed the footage that we had recorded, and then went back to the Expo floor to get some more shots now that there were people in the expo hall, again getting more shots for this Hype Trailer! Once we got the shots we wanted we headed back to the press room and reviewed everything, and we were happy with what we had! We then went back to the show floor to have a couple of hours of looking around at everything, and I decided to make it my mission to get a lanyard to hang on my wall back home with the wristbands on because this time we sadly never got a press pass lanyard as apparently they didnt bother doing one this year, eventually I managed to pick up a TP-Link 8GB USB Stick (Really nice btw, really happy), a TP-Link carrier bag, an Asus ROG Lanyard (Again really nice), some Asus ROG baton things that make a lot of noise.

Once we wrapped up and said goodbye to everyone we had met and got along with well at the event, and then packed up and decided to start the journey home, because its a fair trek away and we were both starting to get tired. After probably an hour? Something like that I think, we stopped at a service station and got a McDonnalds, and it was rather good, especially as they accepted these voucher things me and Dan had that gives a good deal, though their Milkshake machine was dead... Sad times...

About 40mins later we arrived in Gloucester to divert to a local Sainsburrys superstore to re-fuel, as I had burned nearly a tank of fuel over this weekend (It turns out it was a slightly more expensive weekend than I had expected...) before our final 30min trek home where I dumped my bags and got some sleep.

Thats the end of the blogs, we will look at getting a summary blog up shortly, along with the hype trailer. We are also currently planning for Insomnia 59, so feel free to come join our Discord where you can be a part of these plans! Join us here: https://discord.gg/0nI6pe0KZBnOvm7S

So... After getting a tad tipsy the night before it was a somewhat slower start to the day. I think I must have gotten up around 10-10:30 ish... I made the slow walk down to the hotel restaurant to get my full fry up and all you can eat breakfast, though after the night before I dont think I ate that much... Shame on me...

I eventually met up with Dan and we eventually got on our way back to the event where we met up with Alex and someone else who's name escapes me... Sorry... We took a god look around the exhibition hall for a couple of hours before meeting up with some of the guys that were on our pub quiz table (And some others that were from BYOC) for some cards against humanity. At around 3PM we then met up with Rose and we headed off to Pizza hut again where not just did we have to wait for the best part of 10mins to get a seat... But then after getting in we experienced some of the slowest and possibly poorest service I have ever had the misfortune of experiencing, to the point where I wont return now. The only thing that redeemed the experience was the understanding and generosity of the manager who honoured the 2-for-1 deal that we were unable to complete due to our phones being crappy on the wireless internet of the shopping centre. It does not however mean that I will return, in my eyes its just too far out of the way, and after this experience just not worth it, we will have to find a new Insomnia tradition nearer to the NEC.

We eventually got back to the NEC where we had a quick look around and mostly sat around the press room chatting, both me and Dan were somewhat tired by this point and decided to call it a day a bit before 6PM when the venue closes down for the night.

We made our way back to the hotel rooms where we both went to Dan's room to look through all the footage we had collected, and tried to fix his camera (As he had dropped it Saturday morning like a derp...). We also then figured out what shots we wanted for the hype trailer and any pictures, and did some research into removing some of the flicker that we had recorded Saturday morning without realising it. I then went to Dinner (As Dan still was not feeling so great) and enjoyed a Mixed Grill with a Chocolate Brownie for desert. Before heading back up, having a quick chat with Dan and returning to my own room to get some much needed rest, as tomorrow we will be up very early, as we need to get into the Expo haul before the event opens to the public to get some cool shots for the hype trailer... See you all tomorrow!
