Insomnia59 Blog Post - The Other Dan!
For me, the day started much earlier than the other guys waking up at 5am to be ready for my first train of the day. I arrived on time, got my first train with complimentary charging sockets (that's always a plus). An hour or so later, I exited the train and got a bit lost in Reading station. Not long after, my next train arrived and I got on my way to Swindon. Unfortunately, this one had no electric doors, nice seats or charging ports. Before a small Costa pit stop, we left Swindon in Ryan's car where I met up with Dan and James as well. Finally, we arrived at the NEC just in time for the event to start.
Day one consisted of obtaining our (extremely disappointing) traffic-cone-patterned press passes, meeting up with friends, and taking a look around the event. Whilst I am very grateful to be given the opportunity to get some brilliant media coverage, I really don't see why we have downgraded from lanyards and passes to paper wristbands. #Brexit. I didn't manage to play as many games as I would've liked, but I did get some free G2A gift cards and a free t-shirt from Coatsink.
I had spent so long meeting amazing friends after months of being apart, that time flew by and it was time to drive back to our hotel with a couple of unnecessary detours (never make me GPS man again), check in to our hotel and prepare for pub quiz. We arrived with the intention of dumping our stuff and getting ready to leave again, but as we booked through a 3rd party site, myself and James did not have a hotel room booked. After munching on a complimentary KitKat from Mr Wild's executive suite, our rooms were ready. From then it was a taxi to the pub quiz and the rest is a blur! No free beers, but still great having a VIP table right at the front.
Day Two (Sunday) consisted of the same sort of stuff, just a lot slower and more relaxed (due to many falling into a hangover induced coma). We managed to get a great deal on some pizza, walk around and grab some free goodies from Razer. We teamed up with the Inspire crew & Frag Radio to create a livestream in the press room because most of us were too tired to walk around the event for much longer. Overall, the least productive day but so brilliant seeing such great people. From then on, it was a long drive back to Swindon train station (where I managed to miss my train) before the same two trains back to Southampton arriving at 23:00 that night.
It was such an incredible event, and to anyone that is thinking of going - do it! Thanks to Multiplay for organising such a fantastic event and giving myself and the other guys at SN the chance to cover it. Hope to see you at the next one, here's to i60!
